Amrit Maghera
Amrit Maghera is best known for playing popular character, ‘Neeta Kaur’ on CH4 ‘Hollyoaks’; a role that she loved and left on a high recently, to pursue other acting opportunities. She can currently be seen playing a lead role on Netflix, in Pan Nalin's, international, critically acclaimed and award winning feature film 'Angry Indian Goddesses'. It won the People's Choice award at Rome international film festival and The Grolsch People's Choice Awards at TIFF.
It was after attaining a 1st degree in Performing Arts at Winchester University that her career took off. Amrit, being half Indian and half English, was keen to find out about her Indian heritage and after auditioning to be a dancer in a Bollywood film, found herself in Mumbai. Here she was scouted by India’s biggest talent agency Matrix and quickly gained immense popularity as one of the most sought-after faces in the Indian fashion and entertainment industry. This included being the brand ambassador of cosmetic giant Lakme (A contract had by the likes of Bollywood stars Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor). She signed a five-year deal with the brand, which saw her feature on major billboards across the country and in high budget television advertisments. Further brand endorsements soon followed (Coca – Cola, Platinum Jewelry, Chivas and many more) and her popularity and charismatic personality led to her presenting, prime time TV show, ‘After Hours’, where she interviewed the likes of Lady Gaga, Gerard Butler and Travis McCoy.
Whilst working in front of the camera, she developed an ever-increasing passion for acting. Amrit learnt Hindi from scratch and with a lot of hard work and struggle, carved a career as a successful actress in the competitive Bollywood industry. She has worked with and starred along side some of Bollywood’s biggest names such as, Arjun Rampal and Akshay Kumar, has worked with most of India’s top ad film directors and photographers and has graced the front cover and featured in many top international magazines including GQ, Harper's Bazaar, FHM and Vogue. She also played a lead role opposite well-known Punjabi singer Amrinder Gill in comedy hit, 'Goreyan Nu Daffa Karo', released in cinemas worldwide, gaining her recognition in the Punjabi film industry too.
In her spare time she is learning to play the guitar from her Dad and some of her hobbies besides acting are travelling, reading, singing and fashion. 2018 will see her playing a role in another popular TV show, (to be announced soon) and she is looking forward to seeing what other new adventures that this year has in store.
